There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but cash-strapped patrons of Denny's can line up for a free Grand Slam breakfast Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. The nationwide family-dining chain, with 10 outlets in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, announced plans for the free food via a Super Bowl commercial. The promo prompted more than 14 million hits to the company's Web site by noon Monday. Mark Cartwright, manager of the Denny's on Walnut Hill Lane, said it will be all hands on deck for his staff Tuesday - extra cooks, busboys, servers and managers. Like most Denny's, the Walnut Hill location is open 24 hours. But only orders entered into the computer between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. (local time) qualify for the freebie. For customers who queue up by 2 p.m. but have not been served, the restaurant plans to offer coupons for free food later. At $5.99 (the regular price), free meals for an estimated 1.5 million people could cost the 50-plus-year-old company more than $9 million - not counting the cost of the commercial. For diners who want to bring home the bacon, there is one catch: The meal of pancakes, eggs, bacon strips and sausage links is free only if you dine in. CommentsE-mail entry: |

This is going to be such a disaster!! Mark my words! People can't handle anything given to them.
I'll be staying as far away as possible.
Bet they wait for hours for that "free" meal and totally not tip the waitstaff too!!! Cuz it is free!!! Great PR, bad idea.......
What a wonderful thing for Denny's to do. I hope that those who can reasonably afford to go out and buy themselves a restaurant meal will refrain and allow those who can't afford one, to partake.
