I LOVE The Sushi Bar!!!! When I lived 5 mins from the restaurant I would be there every Friday night. Very reasonable prices and great selection of sushi! Young and his staff are very nice and always on their toes to make sure you have great service.
I went today for lunch. Very impressed with the Ahi Tower. Generous portions of large pieces of Tuna and avocado. They don't skimp here on quality or quantity. At $16 - it was a value. I will definately go back!!
As a former general manager of a small privately owned restaurant, I understand the importance of striking while the iron is hot. The Chef who owned my place worked hard to develop recipes and build his dream restaurant. He then put his trust in me to provide the service that would rival his food. After a couple months proving ourselves to the neighborhood, D magazine, DMN, and the Dallas Observer gave us a shot. They wrote glowing artiles about the mouth watering food and royal treatment our servers provided. It is easy, at that point, to sit back and think that the hard work is behind you. However, it is quite the opposite. The restaurant got the recognition. Now it has to keep it by providing that great service and food on a constant and consistent basis. While I have moved on, that restaurant continues to have lines out the door every weekend.
Now, I went to The Sushi Bar last night because of the DMN article. As a foodie and someone always looking for something new, I thought we should give it a try. So we walk in to find it crowded. However, a nice gentleman asked us to have a seat and promised to seat us when a table became available. We sat and watched as people paid, left, and their tables were cleaned. Still we were not sat. We watched the restaurant clear out as we sat hungry, waiting. There was also a party of 6 waiting for a table. They too sat as the restaurant cleared out. I approached the gentleman and was told that the tables were not quite ready yet. After another 15 minutes, and realizing that the window for getting to another restaurant before closing time was closing, we approached the gentleman and informed him that we were leaving and told him why. He did apologize but failed to offer any kind of explanation. Maybe the food is good, I never got to find out. Getting a good review means nothing if you can't take care of the new guests you get because of it.
As the other party to ajkoontz I would like to add, after our less than stellar experience at The Sushi Bar we ended up at Mr Sushi in Addison where we were sat immediately, our server was very friendly with a great sense of humor AND the food was delicious. I guess for me I'll just stick with what I know as I will not be returning to The Sushi Bar even though I have never tasted the food. It may be excellent but the service was terrible.
As the other party to accompany ajkoontz out for dinner last night I would like to add my own 2 cents. After our less than stellar experience at The Sushi Bar we ended up at Mr Sushi in Addison where we were sat immediately, our server was very friendly with a great sense of humor AND the food was delicious.
I will not be returning to The Sushi Bar even though I have never tasted the food. It may be excellent but I wouldn't know because the service was terrible.
To ajkoontz and Vargasgirl,
I am the gentleman that you are referring to in your comment, and I sincerely apologize for the less than desirable experience.
I still do not have a good explanation for your experience except that I was completely unprepared for the number of guests that showed up on Friday. We were overwhelmed. My staff and I work extremely hard to provide good service, and I have not stopped thinking about you both since that evening.
I would be more than honored if you will give us one more try to make it up to you. Although I understand, as someone who loves food and going out to eat, one bad experience can make or break whether you ever return to an establishment.
I am still working on hiring more staff so that an incident like that NEVER happens again.
Once again, I am sincerely sorry for your experience and I hope that one day you will join us.
