Pay your final respects to Doughmonkey

Doughmonkey RIP.jpgHeartbreak: Doughmonkey is closing, this time wholesale operation and all. Co-owner Michael Lima just called to tell me that he and pastry chef Rhonda Ruckman will be closing up their bakery/chocoate shop in the next five to seven days. Yes, the economy plays a factor.

So, in the next few days, stop by for your last Doughmonkey hoorah. Lima told me that the selection will be slim tomorrow and Friday but will grow abundantly over the weekend: They have a lot of very fine chocolate to bake and sell.

Future plans? The couple isn't sure yet. Lima said they'll be taking a vacation after they clear out the shop by the end of the month and considering their options. One possibility is to open a chocolate shop in a much smaller production space. No promises, though.

I'm now as glum as the weather outside today. Dallas is losing something special.

Oh, no!!! I've only been once and Hubbard has never been. All I can think of is the things I haven't even tried yet. Sad. Very sad. I hate all these closings.

We will miss them. I do know that talking among people in my circle that many thought it was already closed and only did wholesale.

NOOOOOO!

This is just terrible. I was just there on Tuesday gushing about how much I loved their cookies and desserts. So sad :(

I don't understand....how can this happen?? This is terrible. Now I'll always regret all the Saturdays I was too lazy to make the drive down.

Worst news of the Summer. :(
Perhaps we can start a petition, raise some money, and fund the Doughmonkey crew? There must be some viable alternative to closing. Help!

... double bummer...

AAAAAAAA!!

I was just there Labor Day weekend, indulging in my fav treats! I want to hoard all their baked goods, but there's no way to do so. I love their desserts more than many restaurants' offerings. This is horrible.

Doughmonkey will be sorely missed. They were one of, if not the first bakery who used truly gourmet ingredients in Dallas, the fruit tarts always supported Tom Spicer's cause, the chocolates high end (not Noka), all of this was noticed ny the foodie community in Dallas. I wanted to personally thank Michael and Rhonda for their expertise on my chocolate pairing for my SE Asian S'mores. Pastries/Chocolates were top notch and the service even better. I suppose all good things have to come to an end. Hopefully when better economic times pan out they will open back up! The foodie community will miss you until your next return!

Look at the silver lining: at least people will lose pounds by not eating the processed baked goods.

It saddens me that the Dallas market could not support such a concept. It doesn't say much for Dallas.
