Here at the newspaper, we get so many food-related books every week that it's hard to imagine there being a culinary category left uncovered. Today I got an email from Penguin's Alpha Books about their Complete Idiot's Guide® series, which includes several primers on food among some 450 sometimes-esoteric topics such as (I kid you not) The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Decoding Your Genes. Now I can fully understand someone writing The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Sushi and Sashimi, The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Cheeses of the World and The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Vegan Cooking. But The Complete Idiot's Guide® to Snack Cakes? Is that really necessary? |

If you don't know why a book on snack cakes in necessary, doesn't that imply you should really read the book?
