Give the gift of vegetables from Tom Spicer

Really. Tom Spicer is offering three gift-box specials through his Web site or with pick-up at FM 1410. The latter point is important: Pick it up yourself, and Tom will double the amount of goodies because shipping is $24.50 with a minimum $25 order online. That's $49.50 if you use the site's shopping cart.

Here's what $25 gets you (double all amounts if you choose to pick up): 1 pound fresh shelled legumes, 8 ounces assorted wild and cultivated mushrooms, 2 bunches baby striped beets (8), a 2-ounce bunch of fresh herbs, 8 ounces salad greens (red and green oak leaf, Lollo Rossa, Tango, red and green romaine, arugula, watercress, etc.), 8 ounces wild huckleberries.

Click to the next page for the other two gift boxes, including Sasquatch's suitcase.

The suitcase includes all seasonal, wild, foraged mushrooms, berries, greens and veggies from the Pacific Northwest.

And here's the third gift box: 1/2 pound French beans, 1/2 pound baby zucchini and Sunburst squash, 6 ears baby corn, 4 ounces sea beans, 1 baby Israeli melon and 4 ounces chicory frissee.

Tom will also include recipes on how to cook these various victuals.

In other news, the Spiceman is working with a new couple in Navarro County who have just sent him the first of the San Marzano tomatoes that Tom raised from seed and transplanted to their Sundance Farm. They're also collecting wild mesquite beans. What the heck do you do with those?

You can read Spicer's entire e-blast here at Pegasus News, where the crew got up really early to post. FM 1410 is located at 1410 Fitzhugh near the intersection of Bryan.
