Nancy Nichols spilled the beans, but, after 11 years, Mark Stuertz is giving up his post as the restaurant critic at the Observer. I am genuinely going to miss his carefully considered prose, his thorough reporting and his evident love of food. I hope the folks at Village Voice Media give some serious contemplation to how he will be replaced. Just talked to Mark briefly on the phone: He'll publish three more reviews at the Observer before his time is up, and he would like to add to Nancy's question about his favorite chefs: He says he kicked himself the moment he got off the phone for not, of course, mentioning Sharon Hage. |

This is the city's loss, pure and simple. Sorry, Mark.

Where is he going?

From the keyboard of Mr. Stuerz himself:
"What am I going to do? I hope to do research and writing of white papers, speeches, and articles, preferably for the high tech industry. Plus, I’d also like to do some religious writing ... A little journalism. A novel. Fantasy. That sort of thing."

Mark is and was an intelligent and knowledgable food critic. He will be missed!
