It's officially summertime, so when better than now to pose the question: Who makes the best frozen treats in the Dallas-Fort Worth area? And by frozen treats, we're talking ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, sorbet and frozen custard (and any of its ilk we've neglected to mention).
Post a comment in the area below, or email us at dining@dallasnews.com. We'll publish some of these comments in a print version, which will appear in a future issue of Guide.
To settle on our critics' picks, Kim Harwell, Shannon Sutlief and I spent the last couple weeks battling brain freeze as we scoured the area, focusing mainly on independent and small chain frozen treat operations. We each finally chose three, presented below alphabetically. Look forward to reading your favorites.
Berry Berry, Addison
At the forefront of Dallas' frozen yogurt trend is this Addison shop, where four flavors of the mouth-tingling treat are offered daily. Always on deck are the original Yogo, a slightly tart "plain yogurt" flavor, and sugar-free custard, sweetened with Splenda; two other flavors rotate weekly from a roster that includes chocolate, cappuccino and apricot-peach (all sweetened with Splenda) and green tea. The dense, creamy texture is a hit in any flavor. A choice of more than two dozen topping lets you go as healthy as you want, from fresh fruits and berries to gummy bears and mochi bits. - Kim Harwell
Curly's, Fort Worth
Frozen custard stands often have their own way of doing things. The flavors are typically limited, though mix-ins are usually available to jazz up your treat. And though it resembles soft-serve ice cream, staffers will happily rattle off the difference between ice cream and frozen custard (essentially: less whipped-in air plus smaller ice crystals equals smoother, denser product). All these details fall away when you succumb to the utter sweetness of Curly's, where customers order at the window and then linger with their custard in the little park-like area. Beyond chocolate, vanilla, and lite vanilla, this month's special flavor is Spartan County peach. Oh, yes. - Bill Addison
Double Dip Frozen Custard, Frisco
This treat shop near old town Frisco has only two flavors: chocolate and vanilla. The creamy custard is flavorful enough on its own, but the menu lists dozens of ways to gussy it up. In addition to the regular cones, cups and shakes, there are sundaes (including a Grasshopper Sundae topped with creamy mint and Oreos) and caliches, which are blend-ins with more than 40 choices of nuts, candies, flavors and other ingredients such as banana pudding. Order at the counter, then grab one of the six tall tables with bar stools. Seating is indoors but open air. However, fans and A/C keep the space as cool as its ice cream-colored walls. - Shannon Sutlief
Milwaukee Joe's
Neither chocolate nor plain vanilla can be found in the case of 24 flavors at Milwaukee Joe's. There are intense flavors like lemon custard (it tastes more like cake than citrus) and cinnamon (which leaves a little tingle on the tongue) and complicated confections like Almond Joy (which has more nuts, coconut and chocolate chunks than chain store mix-in creations) and Disco Lives (a turquoise ice cream with Nerds candies that lives up to its promise to taste like Fruity Pebbles). Located next to the Inwood Theatre, this quirky place sports blue sky-painted walls and old-fashioned soda shop furniture. - S.S.
Natsumi
This spot on Henderson at Capitol in East Dallas hits the frozen treat hat-trick: It offers frozen yogurt, gelato and sorbet, and it scores with all three. Two flavors of frozen yogurt are available daily: plain and another such as green tea. A glass case holds 16 flavors of gelatos and sorbets, and the flavors range from the typical (Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, dreamsicle) to the more exotic (lychee, ginger). The lime and mint sorbet offered a good balance of tart and sweet with a fresh mint finish, and avocado gelato tasted like a ripe fruit. The space is minimalist but cute with bright blue walls and white modern furniture. - S.S.
Old Town Creamery, Plano
The nostalgia-inducing smell of freshly baked waffle cones greeted us on a recent visit to this small but endearing shop. Old Town makes all its own ice cream, the flavors of which range from silky chocolate-coconut and cookie dough to cotton candy and a bright-tasting blueberry. Adventurers should note the "international flavors" such as almond-pistachio-saffron, fig and almond date that resemble Indian kulfi (but they, too, are technically ice cream). Call well ahead for one of the popular custom-designed ice cream cakes. - B.A.
Orange Cup
Orange Cup's sleek NorthPark setting (second floor, near Neiman Marcus and Barney's) is as chic and stylish as the posh shops that surround it. Unlike some retail therapy, however, you can be assured that indulging with a little frozen yogurt is good: It's all natural, with no additives or preservatives. There are three flavors: Natural, with the pleasantly sour tang of plain yogurt; AcaiBerry, which also boasts blackberries and pomegranate; and the kicky Züm, enhanced with a blast of OJ for flavor and vitamin C, along with B-12 and taurine. Toppings include organic nuts, granola and pristinely fresh fruit. Best yet, each cup sports a personalized label displaying your chosen ingredients and nutritional stats. - K.H.
Paciugo
It's been eight years since Ugo and Christiana Ginatta left Turin, Italy, to open a small gelato shop in Dallas. Today there are more than two dozen locations of Paciugo Gelato throughout the United States and Mexico, and more franchises seem to be opening every day. The smooth, luscious treat tastes so rich it's hard to believe it has 70 percent less fat than premium ice cream. The vast array of flavors has something to appeal to everyone, from the school-age set (Cookies 'n' Milk) to culinary sophisticates (Mediterranean Sea Salt Caramel) and purists (Double Milk) to thrill-seekers (Deep Ellum Blue Pecan). - K.H.
Sorbeteria
If you are among the contingent that would gladly eschew the richest chocolate ice cream for a balanced, bracing cup of lemon sorbet, Sorbeteria is your destination. This starkly modern shop, to the right of the Barnes & Noble across from NorthPark, makes fruit sorbets for connoisseurs. Sorbet guru Michael Rubens (who lives in Denver, where this small chain is based) has mastered the skill of blending fruits and fruit juices, sweetened only with cane sugar, into refreshing smoothness. Fun, compound flavors beyond the finely tuned basics include marion-blackberry, mango-raspberry and apricot-tangerine. Note to vegans: All the sorbets are 100 percent animal-free. - B.A.
No Wild About Harry's?! Really?! Those other places are good, or trendy, but they can't hold a candle to Harry's.
Paciugo plzkthnx.
I totally agree with the comment about "Wild about Harry's". Where have you writers been?
Also, Henry's in Plano. That place is great. I have a friend who comes here on business from Virginia and he goes to Henry's and has 3 scoops and that is his dinner! He weighs about 140 lbs.
You DMN writers should get out more. Henry's and Harry's should be the top of everyones list. Those other places are "foo-foo" places.
Sheridan's in Watauga. AMAZING
Paciugo and Sorbeteria!
Two words...Maggie Moo's
Sheridan's its awesome! i love their concrete's!!
Its a most go in Frisco.
I heartily agree with your comments about Addison's BerryBerry. I discovered them right after they opened. My personal favorite is the above mentioned sugar free vanilla custard with berries. The servings are generous and the behind-the-counter help is always friendly. Try it, you'll like it!!
First, I would make the overall comment that Dallas is a weak ice cream city. I can't get a decent ice cream cone within 30 minutes of where I live in Grapevine.
Second, with the other commentators, WHERE IS WILD ABOUT HARRY'S????
Third, despite all the trendy places that mix in topping and serve you a gummy mess, it is pretty tough to beat Baskin Robbins around here.
Culver's. Hands down. End of story. Their frozen custard is so good, you'll never want Blue Bell again. Find them in McKinney or Rockwall. They are worth the trip.
Beth Marie's on the square in Denton! They have the best old-fashioned, homemade icecream in the metroplex with not-so-old-fashioned flavors - like the YUMMY capuccino chip. If you're one of those healthier sorts, they also have the best homemade sherbets & sorbets I've ever tasted - like mango & watermelon plus the standards like lime & orange.
Bruster's in South Arlington! The banana cream pie is our favorite, but everything we've had has been great. They have different flavors daily. It is absolutely hands-down the best ice cream I have had in the metroplex!
Bruster's on Cooper in Arlington is excellent
Henry's Ice Cream in Plano. Award winning home made ice cream at it's best. Personal favorite: cinnamon
How about Henry's Homemade Ice Cream in Plano?
http://www.henryshomemadeicecream.com/
Good enough that not only do we walk ins enjoy it, but he sells to hundred's of restaurants in a dozen states.
Eric in Grapevine - try Milwaukee Joe's in Southlake. If you don't like one of their flavors, you need to get your tastebuds examined.
Wild About Harry's is not only one of the best in Dallas but the entire country!
NATSUMI (period)
TC Shaved Ice on Garland Road. From their elegant turquoise and pink two person shack, to the super sticky picnic tables out front, this place can't be beat. Not a snow cone, much much better, trillions of choices, and no better way to cool off on a hot summer day. Air conditioning becomes optional.
I second the Beth Marie's recommendation! But you should also check out Eskamoe's Frozen Custard in Waxahachie. It is worth the drive.
Aunt Stelle's. Hands down, the best treat in Dallas. Over 40 years in the same location in Oak Cliff. Simply amazing - best shaved ice I've had in my life and worth the drive.
Aunt Stelle's Sno-Cones, at 2002 W Clarendon Drive. 214-946-1431
Wild About Harry's was a disappointment after hearing it talked up so much - frost-bitten, flavorless, and overwhelmingly hot-doggy.
Yes! Berry Berry is the absolute BEST, especially when you think of healthy, as well as yummy. I buy a quart once a week, and indulge at home on a daily basis.
What really bugs me about this list is how you've overlooked true Dallas institutions, like Harry's, in favor of the latest frozen fads. Some of the newer places may be good, but so was I Can't Believe It's Yogurt. Give the ice cream landmarks their due.
Henry's in Plano is pretty incredible ice cream and very local. "Ice Cream Makes You Pretty." If we do not make it to his shop we also get it at the Great Outdoors sandwich shops.
Another cool feature of Double Dip in Frisco is the "poochie cones" for your pets. Very family friendly.
another vote for henry's in plano
In Fort Worth:
Sunflower Shoppe frozen yogurt is perfect--- tart and tangy and good for you!
Curly's frozen custard is also sublime
In Dallas:
Natsumi, for sure. Better than Paciugo, which I know is blasphemy.
BRAUM'S...What the heck is sorbet or yogurt?
Natsumi, Soberteria and Paciugo are great... Fresh, unique, palate pleasing and of high quality. Wild About Harry's is decent custard, but boring. More hype than substance. Has a loyal and ardent Park Cities/HP following, but is one-dimensional, bland and banal.
Henry's.
My favorite's: vanilla and cinnamon
Let's hear it for Culver's! I don't eat ice cream anywhere else.
Paciugo dark chocolate with coconut - WOW. Or fabulous pistachio. Nothing fresher or truer flavors than this awesome stuff.
That said, if Amy's (Austin) would open just one shop here, people would line up for that awesome stuff!
Woodlands on Forest Granita! Lemon-Honey shaved ice served with fresh berries. Absolutly fabulious!!
Bahama Bucks
www.bahamabucks.com
A taste of paradise from the greatest snow on earth!
I tend to think of Paciugo as an Italian tradition that is available here in Dallas as opposed to a fad.
pokey o's??? so simple but great
berry berry is good. but, i love paciugo the best!
Henry's Ice Cream in Plano is very good. I don't how they do it but it even tastes healthy.
Wild about Harry's!!!! Egg Nog flavor is one of Harry's many great flavors.
To everyone saying Paciugo, go to Natsumi and you'll never go back. Natsumi is hands down the winner for both frozen yogurt and gelato. I'd also toss a vote toward's Henry's in Plano.
I love Gooeys! It's on the corner of Preston & Forest. They have no fat no sugar frozen yogurt..only 9 cals an oz! I love the Marshmallow flavor!
I'd have to agree that the best is Sheridan's. I visit the one in Cedar Hill and it's "to die for"!!
Natsumis gelatos are not only superb, but organic and made of soy milk.
Henry's is far above any other ice cream I've
had in DFW. A cinnamon cone, or take home a pint
and put it on apple pie! I also love his
strawberry, and a recent newcomer - Texas
Pecan Praline.
Natsumi is the best gelato I have ever had. I love Paciugo, but Natsumi is flat-out better. Cheaper too.
This is like a bar question... who's cooler... Sammy Davis Jr. or Samuel L. Jackson. We're comparing incomparable things. Wait, stop Adam, it's a blog, it doesn't matter. Custard: Culvers is amazing, but it's nutritional defects make even traditional frozen custard look like carrot sticks. Gelato: I've never tasted such clear flavors as Natsumi. For plain old airy ice cream: Braums.
If you think this one's like a bar question, just wait for the discussion next week on burgers. I'm in the thick of research for that one ... many, many options ...
What about the little snow cone stand in the strip center at Hillcrest and Arapaho? It's a hidden gem that no one has mentioned yet.
How about AFRAH in Richardson. Best homemade Gelato. Wonderful product and absolutely the best service. Lots of wonderful flavors. Best price in town
Mel's on Coit at Beltline near Whole Foods. Locally owned, sweet cream and other yummy flavors, mix-ins
I've been really suprised at how much I enjoy Berry Berry in Addison. The fresh fruit is sweet enough that it tastes like candy and I don't even miss the calories in heavy frozen custard. Not to mention that they stay open late enough for my cravings after dinner (they close at 11:00 p.m!) I am usually not one to try something new, but I'm so glad I did.
Do try this one at home: What about the ultimate hot fudge sundae made with Hagen Das coffee ice cream? Great Outdoors Sandwich Shop used to make them from a menu with names for days of the week, like 'Ruby Tuesday.' They now sell Henry's - a fine concoction as well.
FAMILY HEALTH MARKET has THE BEST Frozen Yogurt ANYWHERE!They have a convenient drive thru also. They are located in Frisco on Preston & Lebanon. INCREDIBLE!
i totally agree! family health market does have the best frozen yogurt around!! they have a wonderful staff as well! if you are ever in the frisco area stop by and try out their yogurt...or better yet their yogurt smoothies!
Wild About Harry's has to be on this list. I've tried several of the their flavors but am especially fond of their pistachio and butter pecan. They're clean, simple, and delicious! Plus, you can't replicate the ambiance of sitting and chatting with Harry anywhere else on this list.
If you want to try something a bit healthier (and different), check out a place called Lone Star Italian Ice located in small strip center off I-30 in Royse City. There's no dairy and thus no fat. Also, it's made with flavors mixed in with the ice so it has a more ice cream-like texture than a snow-cone but much more uniform flavor. Italian Ice is huge on the East Coast, and this is the only such establishment that I'm aware of in Texas.
1. GOOEY'S frozen treats
2. Orange Cup
3. Sorbeteria (love the margarita and cosmo flavors)
4. Berry Berry
The best frozen treat is at the SONIC! The lime slush is a wonderful combination of sweet and sour. Just squeeze in the fresh lime and stir it up. And cheap! You can get a 44 oz drink for less than $2.00!
Best frozen custard that we've found in this area is Woolley's in Hurst (Grapevine Highway) and Fort Worth (N. Beach Street). My favorites are the raspberry and caramel/pecan concretes. My husband goes for the turtle sundae. Everything we've there has been good though.
Orange Cup is definitely my new favorite treat! It is so great! Reminds me of Pinkberry in NYC but better :)
I have been to almost every location on this list and when it comes down to it, Orange Cup is impossible to beat. The first time i had it i was hooked. Now i go just about every day, and the best part is that i don't even have to feel guilty about it. With almost no sugar and live enzymes its almost like a perfect meal replacement. If you have'nt tried this place, it's worth a visit. I promise you will be hooked. :)
yummi + Healthi = natsumi = Gelati + Sorbetti
Hands Down OrangeCUP!!!!!
Sheridan's frozen custard is the absolute best. My least favorite spot is Carvel (chain with spots around the area) -- just don't get it?
Sheridan's had a spot in North Dallas (now a Dunkin Donuts). I was so sad when the closed (why?) but i guess better for my waistline. They had a much more extensive menu of creatvie "concretes" than what their still-open Frisco location serves. "Elvis's pick:" peanut butter and banana mixed into vanilla custard, etc.
Wild About Harry's for a long time was one of the best in town, but the competition has stepped up and now I think there are equal or better spots in the metroplex.
I understand that Wild About Harry's has a special charm and that it's traditional and there are many nice memories that have been made there, but, really, the custard or whatever it is, is pretty run of the mill. It's a treat and I enjoy it, but it's nothing special. Harry's should be on a list of special Dallas places, but not on a list of best frozen treats. There is a difference (kinda like how much we enjoy the grilled cheese and the HP pharmacy, but would never put it on a "best of" list, for the food)
The ice cream sandwiches at Coffee N Cream are to die for! The cookies are baked fresh and the ice cream is so thick and creamy! There are two locations, one in downtown McKinney and the other inside Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church. You've got to try it out!!!
Orange Cup is the best thing ive ever tasted!! Acaiberry with fresh cut strawberries and kiwi!!! OMG! i am going crazy thinking about it.
No one's mentioned Piccomolo Italian Ice Cream, a gelato place in Southlake Town Center. It's in the newer part, just across the plaza from Brio Tuscan Grill. I love their raspberry white chocolate! Eric from Grapevine - check it out, and also do try Milwaukee Joe's at Southlake Town Center, which has wonderful flavors of the day and great sorbet for those watching fat intake.
Beth Marie's in Denton. BEST hot-fudge EVER. not to mention unique and tasty ice-cream flavors you won't find anywhere else. but it's worth the trip just for the hot fudge! i always get some to go!
Premium local ice cream: I say Henry's in Plano. I just love that ice cream. I'm glad Jimmy's sells the stuff, as I don't live up north. I would like to try Mel's, though.
Gelato: I love Natsumi and Paciugo. Paciugo has more flavor options but I like the taste of Natsumi more.
Custard: Love Wild about Harry's and Double Dip. If I'm looking for flavor options and don't want to drive so far north, I go for Harry's.
Frozen Yogurt: The natural kind, I love Natsumi again :).
Second for Double Dip in Frisco. A long time locally owned and operated business in "downtown" Frisco. Has resisted moving to more fashionable digs elsewhere in the city. Mango Dango caliche one of my all time favories.
One of the best kept secrets in Dallas is that there are two Juice It Up!s in the metroplex. One in Lake Highlands at Wallnut Hill & Skillman (next to Mi Cacina/LA Fitness). I beleive there is one in Grand Prairie. I've been a fan for years. They are everywhere in the SW and Southern California. I'm surprised they are never mentioned in these blogs. Not only great smoothies, but they have their own brand of Yofro - Ziiing(with 3 i's). My kids love it.
paciugo's amarena and dark chocolate
i found natsumi to be just different. will try again.
Another vote for Sheridan,s in Cedar Hill - you will be spoiled for ice cream and I love ice cream!!!!
The peanut butter concrete at Double Dip in Frisco... I can't even talk rationally about it. It's just... just... so... so... ok, I have to drive up there and get one, and a banana cream pie one... and apple pie one...
Berry berry is just wonderful! I love all the fresh fruit and toppings choices and the staff is always so welcoming. I visit atleast twice a week with my family and we always take a quart home to enjoy later! Other "yogurt" shops in DFW may try to outshine them, but this place just can't be beat!
Orange Cup froze, yogurt is amazing! Not only does it taste better than icecream its all natural and fat free, who could ask for more! They are about to open many new locations through out Dallas too!
Wild About Harry's has to be on the top of this list. The place has that everyone here is family kind of atmosphere and the hot dog and ice cream combination is brilliant. I'm actually having my 16 party being catered by them. The custard is so unique and it's the best I've ever had.
Juice It Up! in Lake Highlands all the way. No powdered additives like all the others. 100% Natural. No added suger (turbinado). A true California smoothie. Frozen yorgut too. Do your own research.
Harry's is great for custered and dogs, although not very healthy. Berry Berry is just OK. Never tried Orange Cup, but being next to NM and Barney's makes you want to think that they are in it just for the (your) $$$. Kind of like paying $6 for cupcakes or $1,000/lb for chocholate (ie. Noka).
orangecup RULES!!! its the best one ever!!!
i can eat Orange Cup for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!
you dont know good frozen yogurt until you try orangecup.
They are located in Northpark mall by neiman and barney.
They will open in Stonebriar next month.
If I have to vote for one, it has to be Natsumi. It is the clear winner in terms of:
*Taste
*Quality (natural & organic)
*Portion
*Price
*Atmosphere (awesome decor!)
To sum it all up, Natsumi not only offers wonderful products, but also "value". It is great for this kind of economy.
natsumi is good, they have both gelato AND frozen yogurt. they use natural organic ingredients, which i usually avoid, but it still tastes better than anyone out there, surprisingly. of course its convenient for people who live close to downtown, or for whenever youre in the area
I absolutely love Natsumi... the place has a cool look to it, and their gelato is yummy! My fav. is the almond flavor.
Natsumi is definitely the best! They have fresh tasting flavors of gelato, frozen yogurt, and sorbet. Whichever you are in the mood for, don't worry it will tantilize your taste buds.
ORANGECUP!!!!!!!!!!!!
owns all these other nubes.
Natsumi is definitely my new favorite treat! The space is very cool, staff is very friendly, and the gelato is delicious!
OrangeCup is my new favorite. I dont eat any other frozen treat other than their Natural with Straberries and granola. I can get that blended into a smoothie too. I LOVE YOU ORANGECUP!
Orange Cup is the One!!
i cannot live without OrangeCup now! OrangeCup is THE BEST!!!
Definitely OrangeCup! Nothing other!!
I want a OrangeCup right next to my house.. or in my house :) I love all three essentials and those fresh extras.. i better stop now. my craving is going crazy for an OrangeCup.
OrangeCup rocks!
My favorite treat in Dfw would have to be a toss up between Piccomolo and Orange cup. It could just be that my favorite color is orange, but both their stuff is really good. Piccomolo for its great gelato and drinks, and Orange Cup for its frozen yogurt. They are both definitley worth a try.
I vote for OrangeCup for sure.
Natsumi is simply the best of all. Natsumi offers the most fresh and healthy gelato and frozen yogurt ever because they use organic ingredients and make it on site daily..They have variety exotic flavors rotate weekly. My family love to come to Natsumi for the treats. The staffs are friendly and wonderful. Thumbs up for the decor!!!!
Gooey's - Come on 9 calories per ounce. Try the Lemon or Coconut Cream Pie - NO, it does not taste like full fat, but if you did not know it was Fat Free - Sugar Free, you would not know. If you WANT the fat, you can have it and all the add-ins your heart desires!
Let me go ahead and knock this out for everyone...here is the definitive list. :)
1. Henry's (Plano)
2. Milwaukee Joe's (Southlake)
3. Twisted Root (Deep Ellum)
4. Sheridans (Multiple)
5. Culvers (Multiple)
6. Curly's (Fort Worth)
7. Wild About Harry's (Multiple)
8. Natsumi (Dallas)
9. Berry Berry's (Addison)
10. Orange Cup (Dallas)
Orange cup is the BEST~~~
Harry's coffee custard...
And is there anybody here who remembers Steve's Ice Cream in Snider Plaza? When it was here it was absolutely the BEST. Alas, they are long gone...
Bliss and BerryBerry have the best frozen yogurt in Dallas. BerryBerry is creamier and Bliss is fat free and tangier.
Beth Marie's on the Square in Denton is the best! Great old fashion icecream made fresh.
Sheridan's in Frisco...the BEST!
I will say that Curly's and Culver's are neck and neck for the best frozen custard with the nod going to Curly's in FW. Something about having the convenience of Curly's after a day long tour in the FW Museum District, not to mention they have the creamier of the custards. For those of you who didn't know there is a Culver's in Flower Mound also. I guess there is one in each outlying county.
For the best Gelato I would still have to go with Paciugo, they have been doing it for so long they have it down now!
For best Ice Cream I would have to go with Marble Slab (Preston Center). I used to be fond of the one in Irving when the elderly Korean couple ran it several years ago. They were by far the best in the craft at any Marble Slab. Since I went to college in Denton, Beth Marie's is also good but not quite as creamy as Marble Slab definitely more flavors and charm though!
I choose to defer my choice in Frozen Yogurt since there are new ones popping up recently and I have not yet tried all of them. I will have to go against the grain and say I wasn't wowed by Natsumi as others have been.
We love!!!! Aunt Stelle's. We drive across town from North Dallas to our old Oak Cliff standby for the best snocones in Dallas. We were sad the last time we arrived on a Monday and discovered they are no longer open on Mondays and Tuesday, but that won't stop us from going there every other day of the week.
I tried Pink Guava and Mango frozen yogurt at Natsumi and they were the best ones. To other Natsumi's fans out there, I would totally agree with you that they do have really good Gelato. Roast Almond, Pistachio, and Hawaiian Sunset are awesome. The most thing I like about Natsumi is that their gelato does not give you the after taste and it isn't too sweet as Paciugo's or any other ice cream stores. The ice cream store I would go to sometime is Marble Slab for an ice cream cake for a birthday...otherwise...I would head to Natsumi for a better treat.

I must say orange cup knows their stuff. i let my gf shop and i 'reluctantly' tag along for orange cup. The best frozen yogurt I've ever tasted. PERIOD!! its made with organic milk. orange cup acaiberry with coconut, mango and pineapple is addictive. orange cup is THE best frozen treat in DFW. They are so going to blow up.
Orangecup..Of course!!! It is second to none. No doubt. Jutst think about the taste, premium texture and quality of the yogurt. Great products and thank for the efforts that made possible to reach to this high level of satisfaction of me.

Milwaukee Joe's Cake Batter or Dulce De Leche will set you free.
Orange Cup at Northpark has only been opren about a month, and I've been there countless times already. The distinct taste of yogurt, sweet but equally sour, pairs wonderfully with the granola that is always crunchy and tastes of brown sugar. Although Orange Cup's space is small, the natural plain yogurt with granola bursts with flavor that makes it the best frozen treat in DFW. And I'm picky, too.
I'm not a big connoissuerof yogurt shops and their yogurt, but I do very much like Berry Berry. My other big favor is Paciugo. Both are a bit pricy.
I'm in love with Berry Berry!!! I am there atleast 5 times a week!! It is the best around!!
I have dreams about Amy's Mexican Vanilla ice cream with praline sauce in Austin.
Henry's gets my vote for local fave. Best flavors include pumpkin, port, cinnamon, and pecan praline.
Anyone had unconditional chocolate by Dove? Wow!
I no longer live in DFW, but when i came last week i discovered what has to be the best frozen treat around, ORANGECUP!!!! I have never had anything like it. It is a real frozen, live culture yogurt. Just like the yogurt i grew to love as a child, but in a frozen sweeter form. To make it even better they offer 16 toppings to put on it. My favorite is acai berry with strawberrys and walnuts, YUMMY!!!!!!!!!! You have to try it if you havent yet. You won't be disappointed. I promise.
p.s.- they are about to open more in DFW. I'll have to keep visiting. :)
Berry Berry is the best. No where else can you get something that seems so indulgent and yet most any combination is only around 200 calories or less, and thats for the biggest size you can get! With so many fruit and topping choices you'll never get bored and the staff is always nice and remembers you (yay Kimberly!) My bosses and I get Berry Berry for lunch nearly every day, there's no where else that you can have something soooo delicious that really is guilt-free. Do yourself and your body a favor and go to Berry Berry!!!
Hands down Berry Berry!!!
After dinning at one of the restaurant on Herderson street, we drove by Natsumi and thought we should stop by to get some dessert. Oh boy, we did not regret at all. We had a chance to taste almost all of their gelato displayed and even their frozen yogurt. They were all really yummy. The people work there was really nice to us. The atmosphere was also neat and comfortable. We definitely recommend to anyone to come to Natsumi. They are the best in DFW for sure. Wait....make sure you ask for Frequent Buyer Card. You really don't want to miss that!!!
Berry Berry is BY FAR the best and most nutritious frozen treat in all of the Dallas area! In a word, YUM!!!!
Has anyone went to OLD TOWN CREAMERY in plano.I like there COFFEE ice creame. And they have some indian ice cream.
OLD TOWN CREAMERY it is for me too!!! Just love that exotic Mango and dazzling Fig-Almond-Dates flavors. No other place offers such a variety.
Old town Creamery is a great place nice friendly people and the best icecream in town. They have nice Indian flavor of icecreams as well. They do deserve a good spot as they rock. I really like their Almond/Pistachio/Safron Icecream.
Gotta love Henry's Homemade Ice Cream in Plano. Raspberry Chocolate Chunk will change your life!
Gotta love owner, Henry Gentry, too. He actually buys cases of Girl Scout Cookies and makes ice cream out of them yearly. Throws a Pajama Party every summer and gives a free quart of ice cream to everyone wearing pajamas. Teaches "Sundae School" for kids. Here's an ice cream man who "Thinks outside the cone!"
I have tried most of the tart yogurt concepts as I am originally from CA and we have tons of concepts there. I agree with Jon, Juice It Up! has perfect the tart yogurt. I'd even go as far as to say it is better than Pinkberry! Go on and try it for youself. They even have a coupon in the Dallas News!
Old Towne Creamery all the way!!
The owners are really down-to-earth and always have a smile on their faces; they are so nice and treat you just like family.
And the ice cream? Absolutely fabulous -creamy, rich, and plenty! The atmosphere is also great whether it the time be spent with friends or family.
Frozen treats and you left off Henry's ice cream in Plano. NW corner of 15th and Parker. "Ice Cream makes you pretty."
The little sno cone stand off Green Oaks and I-20 in Arlington across from Pancho's was a favorite of mine as a kid. mmmm watermelon shaved ice!!!
Sno Cones - on the northwest corner of 75 & Meadow inside Doc Food Store you can get the best sno cone in town. Made from scratch sugar cane based syrups are the secret. Try the natural flavors.
Smoothies - Juice it Up wins hands down. I think I'm going to get a strawberry wave smoothie right now.
Hats off to DMN for finding the most trendy and overrated places.
Good stuff!!! Yumm!! Greenwood Shaved Ice Incorporated, 6971 Arapaho Rd, Dallas, TX 75248, 972) 960-9755 ....Oh yeah, you got to love Paciugo!!! Hmmmmm!!!
Whoever has eaten at Bliss or Berry Berry needs to try OrangeCup! IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND. Berry Berry's Yo-Go flavor with Mango topping was too creamy for my taste and the fruit was was grossly underripe. I'm sticking to OrangeCup. Their fruit extras are always perfectly ripe and delicious!
Sorbeteria is awesome, especially if you know that your kids will love it, it's healthy, no dairy, no allergens at all. Unbelievable flavors. It's all about the fruit.
GOOEY'S HAS TO BE THE BEST FROZEN YOGURT IN TOWN!!!! I can't believe it was left off the list! It's so cheap and healthy and just yummy! Big mistake...HUGE!!!!
Try it ya'll...you'll LOVE it!!!!!!
Just came back from New York and had a taste of Pinkberry. Of all the yogurt places, Berry Berry is hands down the best and refreshing and most generous. OrangCUp has a weird after taste. Similar but not so good.
My second vote goes to Natsumi. It is also wonderful considering use of organic and soy and those unique flavors of sorbet and gelato and toppings. YUM!
I've had Sheridan's custard. It's OK - but my vote goes to Woolley's.
For ice cream - gotta be Milwaukee Joe's
Ziiing at Juice It Up! is just that...ama-ziiing! I used to drive all the way to Addison for Berry Berry but no more. They have a different flavor every few days but the plain is my favorite and Pina Colada is a close second. They have a great staff too! Very pleasant.
It is downright criminal that Wild About Harry's did not make this list for their delicious frozen custard treats! DMN has disappointed me in their "Best Of" lists before (see "Best Burgers" for a laughable list that does not include The Old Monk, Lee Harvey's OR The Lakewood Landing), but this oversight is patently inexcusable.
Mel's in the Whole Foods Shopping Center. Coit and Belt Line.Richardson,TX 75080 He makes everything homemade everyday! It used to be Marble Slab but Mel bought it! The flavors change daily as everything is fresh! I go there for lunch. Nothing like Cheescake icecream with fresh strawberries and banana's. Yummy!
I believe out of all these stores. Only one, OrangeCup, not only brings a good snack for a boring day. It is a culture of healthy living, green living, and a truly magnificent treat that you can enjoy at any time because of its lightness and tartness. In other words, the experience must be tried by everyone in Dallas. Truly Genius! FAN FOR LIFE
