Well, y'all, I've been riddled with deadlines and just this minute finished watching last night's TiVo'd TC episode. This was the final round in Chicago before the cheftestants regrouped for the finale in Puerto Rico, as announced by a spliced-in Padma voice-over with a bad sound quality match-up. I'm so happy about who went home. More on that after the jump. Yep, buh-bye, Spiteful Spike. Glad your cockiness finally backfired. Mr. Spike aced the Quickfire, which was butchering dry-aged rib eye from Allen Brothers (a favorite Dallas meat purveyor, it should be noted) into a tomahawk chop, which includes a neatly trimmed, or "frenched," protruding bone. Then Spike gloated about his mad skills. His winning advantage was to be able to pick the ingredients for the one app and one entrée that each chef had to prepare at Tramonto's Steak and Seafood. (Great challenges this episode!) Spikey chose frozen scallops as his first-course protein. Total misplay. But at Judge's Table, the Spikester had the audacity to give Rick Tramonto, one of the most intimidatingly poker-faced guest judges ever, lip about the scallops even being in Tramonto's restaurant walk-in. Dang. And then, boom. No pity-inducing tears in his exit interview even. Quietly excellent Stephanie won the challenge - again. Sister girl scored a slew of professional-quality appliances for this victory. My boi Richard made the best single dish of the night, a beautiful hamachi appetizer, so he's in. Antonia rocked out with some on-point steakhouse food, and she's in, too. Lisa put on her best indignant face at Judges' Table as Collichio and Co. ripped apart her work, but she slid into the Final Four. And off to Puerto Rico we go ... Next: Padma dons the tropical outfits in San Juan; Lisa sports a new spiky 'do; Richard overdoses on hair gel; and there's a whole lot more hacking of meat in some tense-looking situation. |
