The Bolla review hits the nail right on the head.

A friend of mine had the 3 course tasting and thought it was one of his favorite dining experiences in Dallas. (And he gets around) I was surprised to hear something so far from his raves in this review. So, should I just try it at lunch or something? I kind of want to go to Daniele Osteria more now.

Margie - I saw Bolla has brunch on the weekends, which is a good way to check out nice restaurants which may be a gamble. That's what my husband and I doing this weekend anyway. We followed the same method for Craft. We went there for brunch first, which was spectacular!, before we shelled out a bunch of money for dinner. Worked like a charm.

I have to disagree with the Bolla review. I had the 9 course tasting and it was one of my best meals in Dallas but David Bull was in the kitchen. Maybe there is a severe dropoff in the quality when he's not there.

"Bolla" is Italian for "bubble"

I recently visited Daniele Osteria. I don't understand how this could be a Guide Pick.

First, I didn't like the atmosphere. I couldn't get past the basement of the Chase building. The restaurant wasn't very busy, maybe 15-20 people on a Saturday night. I thought this was our chance for spot on attention. Unfortunately, most of the time our waiter was no where to be found. As for the food, everyone at our table complained their dish was salty. Overall, the food was fine.

Overall, the food is good but not worthy of a Guide Pick. I'd expect better service, atmosphere, solid food, and maybe a buzz of people.

I think the review is WAY off. Bolla is one of the most interesting, tasty restaurants in Dallas. I've eaten there three times and each time was delighted with my food and the selection. He sounds like he had a personal vendetta against Chef Bull rather than a fair evaluation of the food. I would try it for yourself. Plus it's a beautiful, romantic restaurant.

I too am confused as to how Daniele Osteria could be a Guide Pick, nor how so many other reviews cite it as "authentic" Italian. Were we in the right place?? Is there a chance that the original chef Daniele is no longer in charge of the kitchen, because seriously - frozen calamari rings thickly fried and the tasteless caprese salad left a good indication that the rest of the meal would be similarly un-authentic.And it was.
