Jeanette Prasifka is one tall stalk among local rabbit-foodies, thanks to her vegetarian Crosby Catering. Now she's started a blog about things veggie in and around Dallas, from how the French Room accommodated her dietary needs (well, she says, very well) to a romp through master gardener Peter Scharr's fab Southwestern garden with many edible plants. Even if you're not a vegetarian, Jeanette gives insight into how to eat lower on the food chain without giving up any gustatory pleasure. I'm jealous that Peter also cooked for her, by the way, because he's a master cook, too. CommentsE-mail entry: |

Scott from DallasFood.org also found the French Room very veg-friendly. He wrote about it here: http://dallasfood.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=108 He also reviewed The Mansion, Lola, Nana, Lanny's, Abacus, Bijoux, York Street and Aurora from a vegetarian point of view. It's a great series.
It can be difficult to be a veggie in Texas, this blog is very exciting. You're doing a great service Jeanette, thanks!
Jeanette's vegetarian and vegan food is wonderful and I'm so excited about the blog she's started. I've been to Peter's amazing garden/paradise and munched on some of the edible plants.
I have had the opportunity to experience Chef Jeanette's creations several times in the last months. While not a vegetarian I found her salads, main courses and desserts incredibly delicious.
Jeanette's energy level and devotion to vegetarian food in Dallas are both legendary. Even a carnivore like me is tempted by her creations.
Chef Jeanette writes almost as well as she cooks! And the word pictures almost do credit to her wonderful dishes. I have tried so very many things over a long period of time and have never failed to be amazed at what she can do without the assistance of meat. Her familiarity with all the seasonings makes her the perfect person to concoct so many healthful and yummy dishes without having repetition in her menus. Things are always fresh, incredibly tasty and beautifully prepared. Thank you, Chef Jeanette for being a beautiful Chef who matches your beauty with the food you prepare.
I absolutely adore Crosby Catering! Jeanette does such a wonderful job! When I have parties I always order Jeanette's tasty vegan foods and my non-vegetarian and non-vegan friends never even know what I am serving is vegan! I am excited about reading her blog!!
I've had the pleasure of trying several items offered my Crosby Cafe and can wholeheartedly say its the best I've ever had!
I've had the great fortune to be treated to Jens
delicious cuisine numerous times. I can say with
experience, that she posseses a rare talent for
delighting and surprizing diners with both
flavors, and artful presentation. Her asparagus-fontina crepes are over the top to mention just
one of the many!
I have known Chef Jeannette for over 20 years. She listens to what you want! And the blog is great! Her food is delectable too.
What a treat to sit at a table and not reach for the salt, pepper and/or sweetener. All needed is a bottle of wine and Jeanette.
I have not tasted the food yet, but I am not surprised that she is doing something wonderful with her talent.
Thanks for featuring Chef Jeanette's blog. And thanks to Jeanette for sharing her observations and recipes- who knew she was as good a writer as she is a chef (and that's an incredibly tough feat!)? I've long been a fan of Jeanette's cooking and, even though it's tough to "share" her, I'm glad that more folks are learning about her!
Jeanette is a terrific asset to those of us in the DFW area who appreciate healthy food. You don't have to be a vegetarian to love what she cooks.
Chef Jeanette's creations have elevated my palate on countless occasions. The new Crosby Catering Blog rings with the freshness and vitality of her talent and imagination.
I was so pleased to learn, through this blog, that The French Room would accommodate vegetarians. I haven't been to an upscale restaurant since going vegetarian, since most places I have been give one standard pasta and steamed veggie entree for the vegetarian.
Wonderful food - even for my meat-n-starch family. Her carrot cake cookies and vegan fudge weren't even questioned in my home. Also, Crosby's specially roasted coffee is the only one I drink...no Starbucks or other coffee house even matches it.
