I know I must look peculiar sniffing peaches. But that's the only way to tell if you're talking real peach or baseball wannabe. I was at the Lomo Alto Whole Foods Market, dithering between the Mexican organic peaches, which were outta the park last year, and the California conventionals. Experience said pick the Mexicans; nose said give the Californians a chance. The nose won, and the flesh was perfume incarnate. (Sorry for the purple prose. No, wait. Not sorry.) I bought two, had one for breakfast, and even now am dallying with the other. This is a good an introduction to peach season as I've had - with Texas yet to come - and why it's worth the wait. Anybody else had a drooler peach yet? CommentsE-mail entry: |

I picked up some from Lemley's at the farmers market. I know it's early, but I couldn't resist. They were hard at first (and rather small), but ripened within a couple days and are tasty. Not stellar, which I guess is not surprising given that it's early in the season, but not a bad start!
