We hated Villa-O, the atmosphere is full of people who want to be seen rather than people looking for a good meal and when we asked for a white wine, our server brought us the $18 pinot grigio rather than asking us what wine we would like to enjoy with our meal.

Hector's is absolutely great every time I'm there. I always get a great meal and have a good time. It's not like anything in Dallas, especially with the great music and fun atmosphere.

I found the food and "vibe" at Villa-O to rate no more than ** in my (well travelled) book.

Hector's was bad on food and service for my first visit, and I haven't wasted my time with a return trip. Despite a reservation, we were told our table wouldn't be ready "because there are people ahead of you." When I inquired as to how long the delay might be, I was told "we have 2 4-tops ahead of you." I requested that the delay be translated into minutes, since I had no way of knowing how long "2 4-tops ahead of you" might take. They sent us to the crowded bar and didn't even comp a drink. The wait was 45 minutes past our 8:30 reservation - so long that half of our party went next door to the Biscus for appetizers. When we were finally seated, all but one of our entrees was served stone cold, and they failed to bring the wine we ordered until everyone had nearly finished. The food, when it was finally heated to the proper temperature, was edible.
Zero stars for service and 1/2 star for food.

I've been looking for a place in DFW to get my deep fried avocado fix since we don't have a Los Cucos outpost. Looks like it's the upscale version at Hector's minus the mystery Tex-Mex goo, awesome.

Actually, I work at Fair Park and took one of the State Fair folks to Hector's. He liked the fried avocado so much, they decided to do it also.
Having the State Fair use you as inspiration is, as my dad would say, "pretty high cotton".

Funny, we had the same bad experience at Hector's. I was served cold Halibut. When it returned, it was still cold. The waiter never bothered to check back with me. At the end of the meal, he asked how everything was and I told him I was served a cold entree not once but twice. He smiled and delivered the check without comment. We won't be back.

I love Hector's, eat there often, and am so happy to see such a great review, unless it makes the place too crowded for me to get a table any longer!
With all deference to the reviewer, the seafood lasagna is one of my favorite dishes, I find it just the right size and richness when I don't want to have the full "bombastic" meat experience; and while I never tried the halibut, I have been served the most delicate and elegant sea bass on risotto that made me want to lick the plate.

Villa-O and Hector's share two very bad traits for restaurants wanting to be more than what they can acheive:
1. hit-or-miss service.
2. hit-or-miss food.
For the ammount of money you drop at both locations for dinner, and the latter being around longer than the former, you'd think they woudl figure it out.
Oh well, you 'fans' enjoy both places, you must enjoy being seen there more than just enjoying your friends and sharing good food/wine/service.

Reason enough not to go "the beauties in the booth next to us received VIP treatment. After arm waving and beseeching glares, the servers conferred and someone finally assigned himself to our table. " Let's see if "VIP Beauties" can keep the place open for 6 months or a year. . .Dallas trendy restaurants - poof, they're gone.

I have been to Hector's once and only once, like several previous posters. The service and food were sub-par. They are way too proud of their food to charge those prices.

The service at Villa-O is worse than terrible. Both times I've been the food has been slow, wait-staff non-existent and rude, and they've had issues with running out of ingredients. And when I complained to the mananger, he seemed to care less.
But honestly, my food was good both times. The spinach linguini was great - especially for the price. And the eggplant rolitini was fabulous.
But I honestly refuse to go back.
