Man, were they good. Big suckers, with more substantial tail meat than I encountered at the couple places (not Nate's) where I ate crawfish last year. And they were heavily encrusted with great, zingy, salty, reminded-me-of-Maryland-crab seasoning. Mondays and Tuesdays, the mudbugs at Nate's are on special for $4.99 per pound. The rest of the week they run for $5.99 per pound. Anyone else encountered good crawfish this season? I'm still new to the whole crawfish culture, so I'm wondering if this is turning out to be a particularly good year for them, or if I just lucked out. |

Nate's is pretty great. Good fried pickles, nice place to just hang out. A pound of crawfish there is just crawfish not potatoes or corn like some other places. If you want quality this is definitely the place to go. Long waits on the weekend though, some come early and be prepared to stand outside with a beer in hand.

Nate's has always been THE place for crawfish in my book. Love their hush puppies, not too thrilled with their other food, but a couple pounds of crawfish "turbo" and a cold beer at Nate's is great!

I love the crawfish at Pappadeaux. My son and I went to Pappadeaux on Northwest Highway last night and had 4 lbs of yummy crawfish that were seasoned just right! We also had a great waitress named Meaghan.

Nate's throws on all that salty crap after they cook the bugs and that's *not* the way it's done at any authentic Cajun boil we ever experienced. If it ain't in the boil itself, it doesn't go on after.
Aw Shucks or Dodies blow Nate's away for an *authentic* crawfish plate. Pappadeaux? Puleeeeze...
Bugs start out small and more expensive from December thru February. They increase in size and go down in cost as the season continues on thru March till June. Then you wait till next season.

I went to Nates last night. Only had 2 lbs of turbo, with corn and potatoes with 3 or 4 beers. Very, very good. And.... it was soul night at Nates. Live music is Wed, Thurs, and Sunday nights...

This year crawfish are bigger and better than the past couple of years (lot's of rain in 07 helped!).
In a 'true' Cajun Boil, the seasonings in the water, but you have to let 'em soak for 1/2 hr. Most restaurants in Cajun country add spice after 'dey come out da pot!

Nate's is by far the best crawfish in Dallas, there really is no comparison. Like so many others have said, a couple pounds of "turbo" crawfish and a few beers is just about near heaven. The crawfish are always good size, plenty juicy, and made to order. Other than crawfish, its also one of my favorite places to get really fresh oysters, as well as having a pretty decent selection of fried and broiled seafood fare.
Another spot in Addison that I like getting really good mudbugs is at Flying Fish at Montfort and Beltline. I usually end up here if Nate's is really busy, which it usually is. Flying Fish is a rustic New Orleans style hole-in-the-wall place, but really good food. Its just like a mini-Nate's.
I would not recommend Pappadeaux to anyone. After getting pretty ill off Pappadeaux crawfish, I've vowed never to return. They often cook them "Red Lobster" style, a huge pot with no consistent product. Their often under or over cooked and rarely big. Puny little bugs!

I have really had a hard time finding good live crawfish here in the Atlanta area, thats when I decided I would order my Bugs live from La., best decision I ever made! I ordered 20lbs from cajungrocers.com. These crawfish were huge and beautiful! And they were all alive, just as promised. We had a great Boil turn out for mothers day. I will never buy my crawfish from the farmers market again, Cajun Grocers has my business for life!!!
P.S. Pappadeaux??? Yuck!!!! The best crawfish will always come from your own back yard! Pappadeaux is a joke
