Editorial writer Rod Dreher has staked out a small plot here on the DMN religion blog to muse upon the spiritual and physical aspects of fasting through the Lenten season. Interwoven among the entries to come, he "will be talking about disordered aspects of our food culture, things like factory farming and its abuses of creation, and how our culture of convenience, and of seeing the production and consumption of food as an act without spiritual meaning or moral responsibility, has gotten us into a mess." His most recent book, Crunchy Cons: The New Conservative Counterculture and Its Return to Roots, which you can see here, explores the intersection of commitment to stewardship from the conservative sphere and sustainablity issues raised by concerned liberals. There really are topics these groups agree on. Look for Dreher's entries to be reasoned and thought-provoking. |
