Those price-rollback specials that restaurants use to mark their anniversaries are especially attractive when it's a place where you know the food is good. Who doesn't love to save money on a sure thing? Moreover, when it's a place that's been around as long as the home-cooking heaven Celebration has, those old-timey prices are real bargains in 2008 dollars. Celebration's anniversary email indicates that this Sunday, March 2, "We would like to offer our meatloaf and roasted rosemary chicken for the retro price of $5.95." (Normally these dishes are $10.95 and $10.50 at dinner, $9.25 each at lunch.) Celebration is at 4503 W. Lovers Lane in Dallas. Call 214-351-5681 for more information. |

I have been going to Celebration for years and thought Sunday night might be a good time to drop by. Celebration is typically fairly crowded on Sundays and last night was no exception. It was busy at 5:30, but it wasn't jammed.
Further, service there has always been marginal at best. But the service last night was beyond horrible. We sat for about five to seven minutes before being even acknowledged. Lots and lots of idle time between service. The server simply disappeared about three-fourths of the way through the meal. I was charged for drinks that never came. The list goes on.
Even though I am always sympathetic to waitstaff since I did it for four years in college, I tipped about eight percent last night. I simply could not find a reason to do anything more. And I won't be back anytime soon.
