2005 vintage fete du Bordeaux

Both the Wine Spectator and the Wine Advocate's Robert Parker have gushed enthusiastically over the 2005 Bordeaux vintage, calling it one of the best in years. Now Sigel's is honoring the vintage with a dinner Jan. 17 at the Rosewood Mansion Restaurant that includes several of the area's premier producers and/or winemakers, including Jean-Charles Cazes of Lynch-Bages, Lillian Barton-Sartorius of Leoville-Barton and Jean-Guillaume Prats of Cos d'Estournel.

But those are only the honored guests. The real stars will be the seven 2005s plus seven more library Bordeaux that attendees will taste paired with a menu devised by executive chef John Tesar.

Wines to be tasted include:

2005 Blanc de Lynch-Bages
2005 Chateau Marbuzet
2005 Chateau Ormes de Pez
2005 and 2000 Chateau Langoa-Barton
2005, 1999 and 1990 Chateau Lynch-Bages
2005 and 1989 Chateau Leoville-Barton
2005, 2001 and 1985 Cos d'Estournel
1999 Chateau Suduiraut

Chef Tesar's menu includes Nantucket bay scallops with vegetable brunoise, squab with melted cabbage and Hudson Valley foie gras, tenderloin of free-range buffalo, sun choke and black truffle gratin, a cheese course, and almond-and-pear mousse with saffron syrup and pear ice cream.

Seating is limited to 100. Festivities start at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 and cost is $235 per person. For reservations, call Randy McLaughlin or Jasper Russo at 214-350-1271.
