Ounce Prime Steakhouse will be opening in Addison late October/early November, in a renovated space next to Mi Piaci. The new venture will seat 228 and have a slew of big-ticket touches, including private dining rooms equipped with viewing screens (for business meetings) and a humidor room with cigar lockers (‘cause it’s still kosher to smoke in Addison restaurants, apparently). Ounce’s managing partner Dan Schertzer, who was an operating partner of the Fleming’s steakhouse chain in the company’s early years, says the bar will include two 42-inch tv screens and that the wine list will have 60 options by the glass. Richard Calhoun, chef at recently defunct Samba Room, will helm the kitchen. Though the design will be thoroughly modern, the menu will resurrect old-school faves like chateaubriand for two, steak Diane and beef Wellington. In other restaurant news … Frida’s Mexican Bistro opened at the end of July in the Oak Lawn space formerly occupied by Marco Italian (I’m sorry I never got to try Marco's garlic rolls). Owner Jose Cruz was formerly a service captain at the Mansion on Turtle Creek. The restaurant offers a array of true Mexican and Mexican-inspired dishes: cochinita pibil (the slow-cooked pork dish Johnny Depp was obsessed with in “Once Upon A Time In Mexico”), filet mignon stuffed with Oaxacan cheese and topped with huitlacoche; cactus salad; mole enchiladas made with homemade corn tortillas; and a chile relleno that Cruz sounds particularly proud of. There’s a big ol’ list of tequila-based drinks. Daily-changing ceviches and brunch service coming soon … A second location of Addison-based Ferrari's Italian Villa has opened in Grapevine. And diner-about-town Michele Axley reports that William Kovall, former executive chef of The French Room, will be returning to Dallas in mid-September. Alas, he won’t be cooking in a public restaurant: He’ll be the executive chef at the Lakewood Country Club. |

You can still have the garlic rolls at Vitto's in Bishop Arts District. I think it is owned by the same person as Marco's. Oh yeah, welcome to Dallas, Bill.
