...from Rachael Ray. That woman is everywhere. We think she must have a clone or two running around out there, spreading EVOO all over the place.

Anyway, now you can get Rachael's "Recipes on the Run" sent to your mobile phone. The service is available to AT&T wireless subscribers nationwide for a $2.99 monthly subscription fee, and [warning: boilerplate ahead!] standard data plan rates apply.

Good news for Uptown carnivores: The Silver Fox Steakhouse, which already has outposts north (Frisco and Richardson) and west (Fort Worth and Grapevine), is now in central Dallas. The III Forks sibling recently had a soft opening in the Centrum, 3102 Oak Lawn Ave. (Yes, that's the old Star Canyon space.)

This newest Fox, run by Mark Loebs (with veterans Gene Street and Dale Wamstad among the other major partners), is tossing itself a grand opening today, to be continued Friday and Saturday. Reservations: 214-559-2442.

...are still available, we hear. The annual charity event (which benefits Share Our Strength's efforts to end childhood hunger) is to be held this Sunday, June 3, at Park Place Motorcars, 6113 Lemmon Ave. in Dallas.

Participants get to taste dishes from some of Dallas' top restaurants, including Stephan Pyles, Trader Vic's, The Mansion on Turtle Creek, Trece, Nove, Sushi Samba, et al. The new House of Blues will present live music, and both a live and a silent auction will be held.

Among the hot auction items: Chef Pyles' 10-course tasting menu with paired wines, and a private Pyles cooking class for four. Guests also can bid on a race horse, a Kentucky distillery visit, a meal for 10 from former royal chef Darren McGrady, restaurant certificates and NASCAR goodies.

Chef Harloff through the "Screen Door"

Former Melrose Hotel exec chef Joel Harloff (above) has been named exec chef of the new Screen Door restaurant coming to One Arts Plaza late Oct. or early Nov.

The new eatery is the brainchild of Dallas restaurateur Scott Jones, known for his longtime Tex-Italian eatery Cafe Italia on Lovers Lane. Look for a second Italia to open in the Bishop Arts District late this summer.

What else has Jones done besides feeding us all in style these many years? He and his partner were executive producers on the campy cult film Sordid Lives with Delta Burke and Olivia Newton-John.

Buy it HERE.

Hit the wine trail

5:11 PM Wed, May 30, 2007 |
Joyce Saenz Harris   E-mail   News tips

Twelve North Texas wineries are launching the Munson Wine Trail this weekend with tastings at McKinney's Art and Jazz festival, Saturday and Sunday in downtown McKinney. Wine tastings will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Coupon books are $30 and may be purchased in advance for $25 at all Munson Wine Trail participating wineries, or onsite both days. Bottles of wine from all participating wineries may be purchased at Landon Winery on the days of the festival.

BTW: The new wine trail's name honors Thomas Volney Munson (1843-1913), an internationally known horticulturist from Denison who developed more than 300 varieties of new regional grape varieties. Munson also saved the French wine industry in 1880 by introducing hardy Texas rootstock grafts to the vitis vinifera being destroyed by the pesty phylloxera root louse. In gratitude, the French government awarded Munson the Legion of Honor. Quel homme, quel héro!

Where's the beef?

Apparently, it's on the arm of N9NE steakhouse chef Chris Conlon. On a recent visit to the Victory Park hot-spot we discovered that the chef has a "cuts of beef" tattoo on his arm.

Does this make you want to eat steak from here more or less?

Cathy Barber   E-mail   News tips

Fredericksburg’s own Pastry Queen, the brilliant Rebecca Rather, has a Christmas present for Texas bakers. The Pastry Queen Christmas cookbook is due out in September from Ten Speed Press. The cover features a towering, fluffy coconut cake, the kind you wish somebody else would make and bring to your house, or at least serve when they have you over. Sample Ms. Rather’s wares on your next trip to the Hill Country. Her Rather Sweet Bakery and Café is just off the main drag in Fredericksburg.
